Henshaw Murals & Fine Art is owned and operated by Ron and Kristine Henshaw. Originally named Henshaw Murals and Finishes, the company has been in operation since 2000.They are licensed, bonded and insured and have worked on a large number of residential and commercial projects on the West Coast.

Ron and Kristine


 Ron and Kristine are both 4th generation Washingtonians and have lived in their downtown Seattle residence for 17 years. Kristine studied for two years at the Academy of Fine Art in Seattle (now Gage Academy) and has attended numerous fine art and decorative painting workshops. She is a member of Plein Air Washington. Ron attended the Seattle Architectural Finishing Studio and has worked for various local contractors building custom homes. His avocation is local history. They have joined forces and mutual interests to form a company devoted to developing unique, exciting and professional murals, maps and fine art.

Murals

Each mural is a unique opportunity for artistic expression. We work closely with our clients to create an original and personalized work of art. With a keen interest in art history we are able to work in a variety of styles and together we will find the look best suited to the project. We enjoy using textures and interesting materials and have found innovative ways to incorporate them into our work. The design, creation and enjoyment of our murals has proven to be a fun and exciting experience for both our clients and for ourselves.

Materials

We are very concerned with creating a lasting work of art and use only the finest artist’s grade materials. We make our own glazes using natural pigments and have extensive experience with various timeless and contemporary decorative materials such as Italian Marmorino, Venetian plaster and Dutch metal leaf. When working on site, we use only water-based paints.

Glaze on Glaze

We have developed a cost-effective mural style for a very subtle look which we call glaze on glaze. After painting the wall with a custom colored paint, we apply several colors of glazes as an imprimatur. Upon this subtly colored surface, supplied with a collection of images which we have gathered, a very free flowing and spontaneous mural is painted, melding into the background and interacting with it.

Murals on Canvas

We often work within the confines of a construction timetable and are very aware of the practical need to accomplish our work quickly. Cost and value are of utmost concern to us. We offer the option of working on canvas which is painted in the studio, applied like wallpaper, and can be removed at a later date. For additional interest, the canvas can first receive a plaster finish. We are currently working on a mural incorporating oil paintings made in the studio with a plaster finish applied on site for a luxurious look without an exorbitant price tag. We also make custom large-scale canvas paintings.

Decorative Painting

We design and apply custom decorative wall finishes both to compliment our murals and upon request. In addition to extensive experience using glazes and plasters, we are also well versed in the techniques of wood graining, & marbling. Our fine art background is apparent in the subtlety of our finishes, the exactness of color matching and precision of the finished product. GALLERY

Maps

Maps have been used since ancient times to adorn the walls of important public buildings and residences. They are an art form that is enjoyed by a wide range of people. Decorative and informative, maps can be fashioned in an antique, modern or whimsical style.Our maps are a collaboration. We work closely with each client to select the geographic area, information and overall appearance. For a complex and textural appearance that brings to mind the look and feel of a classic fresco, we prefer to paint on a proprietary plaster surface, using artist’s grade permanent gouache. This can be painted directly on the wall, on canvas to be applied to be the wall, or as artwork that can be hung on the wall. Please see “How to Proceed” and email us for further information.

How to Proceed

After reviewing our website, if you would like to commission a mural we would be delighted to answer any questions via email. For an on-site consultation in the Seattle area, we request a fee of $250 to be applied to the cost of the mural. We will estimate the cost, exchange ideas and images and work with you to develop a concept for your mural. When both parties are confident as to the direction, we will send a letter of agreement detailing the exact cost and clarifying the arrangements. We request a deposit of one third of the total cost of the work. Color samples and studies will be supplied, as needed, both for our own use and to ensure your confidence to proceed with the mural.
